The Home Journal

I'm really thrilled to be a part of, and share with you, a brand new online magazine called The Home Journal. It's going to be a fabulous and really valuable resource for home inspiration and modern lifestyle. Everything from interior design and architecture to food and holiday destinations. We'll bring you interviews with brilliantly creative people, and updates on hot new products and colour trends.

Let me tell you how The Home Journal has come about. Dani Wales has been catapulted into the limelight through her back-to-back appearances on The Block Australia. She and her partner Dan Reilly have been immersed in the world of renovations and interior design for the last one and half years, all while being filmed 24 hours a day with very little sleep - no easy feat! But it has given Dani a fast, and heavily concentrated introduction to interior design. With her fantastic style and great attention to detail, Dani is now excited to continue with her love of design. And so, The Home Journal was born!

It's fantastic to be a part of an amazing group of contributors from both Australia and New Zealand. I will be bringing a lot of New Zealand content to this publication, showcasing the major creative talent we have, and the beautiful locations we're so proud of. Make sure you come and visit, and while you're there, sign up to receive all the latest posts. Enjoy!

I'm taking a break over Easter to hang out with the whanau, but will back with you all on Tuesday. Happy Easter, and take it easy on the chocolate :)

Green + Pop

You may have noticed that I'm a fan of rich, beautiful jewel tones, in particular deep blue and emerald green. Both of these cool colours look amazing with a contrasting warm colour. We see red and green together a lot, but that's a bit Christmassy! I prefer emerald green teamed with a jolt of vibrant orange or hot pink. Let me show you...

Contemporary Farmhouse

I knew when I saw this home that I had to share it with you. The open bookcase in the dining room is what drew me in. I am a huge book lover, and I know you're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but some of them are just too good-looking not to display.

The home belongs to floral designer Dana Worlock, and her husband Patrick. Dana and Patrick moved their family from Brooklyn to a more rural area of upstate New York. The house is a 1940's farmhouse, and the couple have successfully married the old with some more contemporary touches. Ghost chairs sit comfortably around an old wooden table, and vintage film canisters now house a collection of crayons.

I love that this is a 'real' home, it's cool and quirky, some bits may be a bit worn around the edges, but it has massive character, and some great art.
