Christmas DIY Ideas

Right, now that we've had the December birthday parties, and the magazine photo shoot, I can focus on Christmas. Here are a few little DIY ideas that I love...

Personalise your champagne flutes: Leave those drink charms for the wine glasses! Instead, let your guests decorate their own flute with coloured Japanese Washi tape. It'll be easy to identify which belongs to each guest, and the tape peels off clean at the end of the night.

Mini Christmas Pom-Poms: All you need is some red & white bakers twine, a fork, and a pair of scissors. Wrap the twine around the fork until it starts to look round and full. Then, thread the end of the twine through the centre of your fork and tie it around the ball of twine. Finally, snip the loops and slide the ball off the fork. After a few fluffs you have a pom-pom for the top of your gift.

Make your own Advent Calendar: Wrap 24 little gifts in brown paper, and use some of your bakers twine to tie around them. Attach each gift to a wooden peg on a board or clipped to more twine. Decorate by glueing some patterned paper or fabric to a plain peg, or buy some ready-made.

Christmas Baubles: Purchase clear glass balls and fill with whatever you want. You could use different shaped beads, or try cutting strips of patterned paper, curling them and popping them into the balls.

Magazine Shoot

I must apologise for my absence from the blog yesterday. We had a photo shoot at our home for Homestyle magazine. My day was spent cleaning, prepping and styling in readiness for the 5pm shoot. I now have a new appreciation for interior stylists, it is hard work (but fun) - I collapsed into bed at the end of the night! Our photographer, Anneliese, was amazing. She had the girls following her around like the pied piper (they may end up in plenty of photos).

I am lucky enough to be blessed with a fantastic friend, Bec, who shares my love of interior design. Bec, with her wee daughter, Mia, spent a good part of the day helping me set up. My beautiful Mum & Dad have gone away for the weekend, but before she left Mum picked a bucket full of flowers from her garden. We also had some gorgeous flowers provided by Flowers by Chilton. Another great help was my mother-n-law, Yvonne, who popped in and zhushed up the flowers (not the Flowers by Chilton ones, they were perfect) and lent her great eye to the styling. All in all a successful day!

Adore Summer Edition

Adore magazine's Summer edition is out now, and it is full of stunning interiors and loads of Christmas gift ideas. I love the article on Magnolia Interiors on page 54. I can't even express how badly I want that hot pink peacock chair!

And make sure you read the article on page 69 about the Brisbane couple whose newly renovated cottage was all but destroyed in the 2011 floods. Despite this heart breaking experience, they managed to turn it into a positive by hiring the incredibly talented interior designer, Anna Spiro, who has created a beautiful home for them. I'm wanting some new outdoor furniture this Summer, and the setting here with the yellow chairs has definitely inspired me.
