Big Love for Big Save

Don't you just love rugs?! They bring warmth, colour and texture, and they help to ground
a room. Add a rug under your coffee table and between your sofas and it instantly pulls everything together.

I was at a friend's home recently and commented on their amazing new chevron rugs.
I was so excited to hear that they're from Big Save Furniture. I am a true believer that style doesn't have to cost a fortune. My theory is to have one or two beautiful designer pieces, and balance those out with some more affordable pieces.

I popped in to my local Big Save store and had a chat to the team. They were so helpful and friendly, and had some really great furniture. I got all the info on the rugs so I could share it with you. The rugs measure 140cm x 200cm and are made from 100% cotton. The zig zag rug is available in black, grey, orange, and yellow, and they also have a very cute multi coloured peacock pattern. The pattern is printed onto the mat, so they are single sided. Retail price is $199, but for a limited time they are selling them at half price -$99, what a steal!

I also discovered that they have matching cushions. They are a great size at 50cm square, and come in the same pattern and colour range as the rugs. These retail for $40, but again are on sale at only $20 each! Cushions are the easiest way to change the look of your room, and I am always changing and swapping mine (to the great amusement of my husband!). At such a fantastic price these cushions are super affordable. Why not pop in to your local Big Save store and have a look for yourself.

Fane Flaws - Xmas Specials

Here in Hawke's Bay we are so lucky to have an amazing art community. One of our most well known and respected artists is the multi-talented Fane Flaws. Starting out as a graphic designer, he is also a musician, writer, director of award-winning music videos, short films and TV commercials, painter and sculptor. And, as if that wasn't enough, I've had the pleasure of attending an event that he was MC'ing, and he is a fabulous speaker!

My favourite of Fane's creations has to be his series of birds made out of demolition timber - now there is a brilliant way to upcycle! If you think they look good in these photos, wait until you see them up close - the texture is incredible, and they create an amazing statement piece for your wall, either on their own, or grouped together.

As a Christmas special for all my Cush & Nooks' readers, Fane is offering his smaller birds (approx 300 x 200mm), and tikis for $200 each, or $550 for three.

And he also has a couple of larger birds, two swans and a large pale tiki available for $600 each. These would make fantastic Christmas gifts (I know I'd love one), but get in quick to secure your favourite. Contact Fane through his website.

These gorgeous lightweight cotton quilts, worth $150 - $180, are all made in India by piecing together saris and stitching all over by hand with tiny, delicate 'kantha' stitches.
The single size (150cm x 225cm) is perfect as a bedspread on a single bed, or as a throw on a larger bed or sofa. I've also used mine as a table cloth before, which looks amazing.

The winner will be notified by email, and announced on the Cush & Nooks Facebook and Twitter pages at 5pm (New Zealand time) on Friday November 30th.
